In reading this book, Who Owns the Ice House?, I came across this paragraph that helped me to realize just a little bit about the working mentality of some people and communities. The section between the blue lines basically says that the people's livelihood were solely based on hard work and labor because that was all they knew and were limited to pursue. But today we still have this mentality, when we have unlimited opportunities available.
But as for me I feel fortunate to say, although, I have been raised by this mentality, I was able to see a window of opportunity. So I jumped into faith to pursue something different. By doing so, I created a new path for a different future that my children will be able to experience, which includes pure effort and the free use of their mind and personality.
Please read the paragraph in the image above, narrated by a man who used to work in the cotton fields when he was 13 living in the Mississippi Delta around 1958, and share how you compare his comments to what you see today.
